"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23

Galations 5:22&23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

John 15:8-11 "Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."

Psalms 16:11 "Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."

Psalms 43:4 "Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God."

In John 15:10 Jesus said if we keep His commandments and abide in His love, His joy will remain in us and our joy will be full. So, having love for God and one another will actually bring us a joyful life. If we truly love God, we will want to keep His commandments, it will not be a chore, something we have to do. It will bring us joy to know we are pleasing Him. Verse eight says the Father is glorified when we bear fruit and so, bearing fruit brings us joy, for we are glorifying the Father as disciples of Jesus. Psalms 16:11 says being in the presence of God will bring joy and Psalms 43:4 says God is our joy.

Nehemiah 8:9-12 " And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength. So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved. And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them."

When the people stood for the reading of the word in the scripture above, they wept - they were told by Ezra and Nehemiah and the priests and scribes not to cry for the day was holy to the Lord. They were not to be grieved. They were to eat and drink and be joyful because they had heard and understood the word of the Lord and because the joy of the Lord was their strength! When we hear the word of the Lord, whether from reading, preaching, teaching or song, it should bring us joy and that joy brings us strength.

Serving Him, keeping His commandments, loving Him and others and just being in His presence through reading and studying His Word and prayer can only bring joy and happiness into our lives. Then - knowing that everything we do for God is only going to bring us joy, let's get out and be about the Father's business. Christians should be the happiest people in the world!
