"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
Galations 5:22&23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
Revelation 14:13 "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from
henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."
Matthew 21:19 "And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said
unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away."
Matthew 3:10 "And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good
fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire."
The fruit of the Spirit is a gift from God.
There are nine fruits mentioned in the fifth chapter of Galations. These are character
traits that many people strive all their lives to attain, and many fail miserably. Yet, it
seems others have many of these traits effortlessly - without even trying. The fruit of the
Spirit is the work of the Holy Ghost within us. It is not just something we can gain on our
own. It is something we can only attain by joining our lives to Christ, by loving Him, by
imitating Him and by remaining close to Him. Only then can the Holy Ghost prove these nine
characters in us. Oh, I'm not saying it doesn't take any work on your part and I'm not
saying it happens over night. I am saying that you can't do it on your own, though. It is a
gift from God. It is a work of the Holy Spirit. Without God working through the Holy Spirit,
there will be no fruit. And without you staying close to Christ, there will be no fruit.
Although our works don't save us, Revelations 14:13 says they do follow us. What we do
is important. How we act, the way we conduct ourselves on a day to day basis, reflects on the
name of Christ if we call ourselves Christians. You can tear down more in one temper
tantrum than it took you 10 years to build up at the place where you work. That's why it is so
important to build the nine fruits of the Spirit as solid as you can build them into your
character and practice them in your everyday life. We need to practice love, longsuffering,
gentleness and goodness with our families at home, not just with coworkers and friends. And
what about temperance, it's easy to be temperant with alcohol if you don't have a drinking problem
or food if you're not overweight but what about your particular vice? What is it you need to be
temperate in? Perhaps too much TV or sleep? And it's hard to be meek sometimes when all you
really want to do is throw something, isn't it. These are the times we need to let the Spirit
take over and guide our lives. These are the times when our prayer life needs shaking up.
Bearing fruit was so important to Jesus that he put a curse on the fig tree that didn't bear fruit
so that it couldn't bear any more figs and it withered up and died. Matthew 3:10 says every tree
that didn't bear good fruit would be cut down and burned. Let us take these verses seriously.
I have memorized the nine fruits of the Spirit and am praying and working diligently toward
improving my gifts everyday ... for I'm a firm believer that there is always room for improvement!
There is not room here to print all nine of the fruits of the Spirit so I have made separate pages
for each one. Just click on the buttons below:
