PROVERBS 1:27 "When your fear cometh as
desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and
anguish cometh upon you. 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not
answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29 For that
they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: 30 They
would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 31 Therefore shall
they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own
devices. 32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the
prosperity of fools shall destroy them. 33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me
shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil."
God is the God of the mountain and the God of
the valley. He's the God of the day and the God of the night. Many nights
when my soul has been heavy, my heart bleeding, I lay in my bed but sleep
wouldn't come to sooth and calm my mind. I started to pray. As I prayed in
the dark a sweet peace swept over me and I fell asleep in the arms of God.
He's a shelter from the storms of life and He will ease the suffering in
the dark. He doesn't promise every moment of your life will be spent in
the light but He does promise that if you cry out in the dark He will come
to you, comfort you and hold you until your fears are calmed.
The
song "Heavenly Sunlight" says, "Jesus has said, 'I'll never forsake thee'
- Promise divine that never can fail", but Jesus didn't promise we would
always be on the mountain and in the sunlight. The second verse of that
song says, "Shadows around me, shadows above me, Never conceal my Savior
and Guide. He is the light, in Him is no darkness..." and that, too, is
true. There is no darkness in Jesus but Psalms 23:4 says, "Yea,
though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no
evil: for thou art with me;" so God knew there would be shadows in our
lives. But the shadows of death and despair are not the only shadows
mentioned in the bible. Psalm 63:7 says, "Because thou hast been my
help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice." When the
dark shadows seem to cover us with darkness we can always hide in the
shadow of God's wings! We will have many dark valleys to walk through and
we will also have some mountain top experiences. God will be there with us
through them all. If we will "ever walk close to His side" we will be able
to say with the Psalmist, "I will fear no evil for thou art with me,
thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me."
God said in Proverbs 1
that if you hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord
then "When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh
as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you" and you
call upon God, He will not answer. But then He says in verse 33 that
"whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear
of evil." So if you have been living for God to the best of your knowledge
and understanding, when the dark shadows start creeping in and you get
down in the valley you can call on Him and He will answer
you. He will quiet your fears and you will be able to safely dwell
in Him! What a promise!!!
JOHN 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my
peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not
your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
There is a certain amount of peace to be
found in the world. If you have a good job and some money in the bank you
have financial peace. If you go for a check up and your doctor
gives you a clean bill of health you have physical peace. If you
get along with all your family members and you are all in harmony then you
can have peace in your home. But when you are alone in the darkness
of despair and depression only God can give you spiritual peace!
TAKE MY HAND PRECIOUS LORD
When my way groweth drear, precious
Lord linger near, When my life is almost gone; Hear my cry, hear
my call, hold my hand lest I fall; Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead

When the shadows appear, and the night draweth near,
And the day is past and gone; At the river I stand, guide my feet
hold my hand; Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.
Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on let me stand, I am
tired I am weak, I am worn; Thru the storm, thru the night, Lead
