Luke:19:1 "And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 And, behold, there was a man named
Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see
Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 And he ran
before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. 5
And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus,
make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. 6 And he made haste, and
came down, and received him joyfully."
Zacchaeus, a despised publican, a tax collector for the Roman government, wanted to see Jesus.
Because he was a little man he could not see over the large crowd that clustered around Jesus,
so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to get a better look. Jesus knows where we are
every second of every day. He knew who was in the tree, why he was there and what was in his
heart. He stopped and spoke to Zacchaeus and invited Himself to a meal at the little man's
house. Jesus is always looking for someone to go home with and many climb up for a better look
but not all actually let Him in!
Zacchaeus made haste and came down and received Jesus joyfully. If we are to receive Jesus, we
must give up all our pride and reservations. We can hold back nothing! If Zacchaeus had not
come all the way down from his lofty perch in the sycamore tree that day Jesus could not have
gone home with him. Zacchaeus knew he was a sinner and he repented before Jesus and vowed to
make restitution. God cannot use a proud heart. We must give Him all of ourselves if we
expect Him to use us and bless us. If we are still sitting half way up the sycamore tree, He
will pass us by.
Is God calling you to a special service for Him? It doesn't have to be a call to the ministry
or to the mission field to be a special service. Maybe He wants you to teach a class or sing
a song. Or maybe He is just calling you to take food to a shut-in or send a card to someone
who is sick. There are a multitude of things we can do for God that many don't even think
about, like a care package sent to someone far away or even a phone call of encouragement to
someone who is discouraged. Even a glass of water, given in His name, does not go unnoticed!
Whatever He is calling you to do, you can't do it until you climb down from your tree, get your
pride and will out of the way and receive Him joyfully.
ARE YOU STILL IN THE TREE?
Three little Christians climbed up a tree,
All the better for Jesus to see.
Then that day, as Jesus passed,
He looked up in the tree and asked,
"Who will come down from the tree
And work the fields of earth with me?"
The first little Christian gave a sigh
And said, "Oh no, Lord, not I.
I'm much to busy at what I do
To climb down now and follow you."
The second little Christian came down a little,
But stopped halfway, right in the middle.
He said, "I can't - I might get dirty."
Then scampered back up the tree in a hurry.
The third little Christian climbed all the way down
And stood beside Jesus on the ground.
He said, "I'll go, Lord, and work for you.
Just tell me what you want me to do."
Jesus called him faithful, He called him true,
But He walked away and left the other two.
I'm glad I came down when Jesus called me.
ARE YOU WALKING WITH HIM?
OR ARE YOU STILL IN THE TREE?
LUKE 10:2 "The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the
Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest."
Jesus needs you!
Will you work the fields of earth with Him?
My prayer for you is that you will do something for God this week. It doesn't have to be
something great, but don't put it off! The Devil has kept me from doing many good
deeds by simply talking me into waiting!
