{DEVOTION WELCOME}

HEBREWS 12:1 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

What is it you are hoping to accomplish in life? In this race you are running, exactly where are you running to? We run here and run there but seems we aren't really going anywhere. And when we come to the end of the race, we look back and can only see what we should have done differently. I don't want this to happen to me and I'm hoping this devotion will make us all more aware of why we are doing what we are doing.

Time flies by so fast. It seems like the weekend comes right after Monday! And in January I make so many resolutions and have really good intentions of carrying out my big plans for the year but the first thing I know it is December again! I was obsessing the other day on time and where it had gone when this thought struck me: Life is only a journey to a final destination; a means to an end. Life is a race. A journey we are taking that ends at heaven's gate. Only those things done for God and for good will count in the end. All the other little things we obsess and worry over won't really matter.

John The Baptist's whole life had only one purpose: to announce the coming of Christ. Jesus Christ's life had only one purpose: to provide a means whereby we could go to heaven. What they ate, what they wore, what others said about them, how much money they made, where they lived or worked didn't really matter. They had a path to walk, a race to run and when it ended only what they had done toward accomplishing their missions really mattered.

God wants us to lay aside all the silly little everyday cares and weights that are hindering our race so we can make better time and go farther in our allotted time on earth. We all have a set time to die and when that time comes I hope I don't have any regrets over wasted time and effort on inconsequential things that won't matter after I'm gone.

What is keeping you from running your best? Each trial, each test in life, is like a rock or a fork in the road. What matters is if you stumble on the rocks or if you take the wrong path. Life is full of storms. You must keep your eyes on the goal and not be blown about by the winds of these storms. If you mind the rocks and pot holes, if you can keep your faith through the storms and if you follow His foot steps at each fork in the road, you will make it to heaven's gate. And, after all, that is all that will matter to you then!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

How can you do all this? You must lay down each weight in order to run. Everything in your life that is hindering you from running your best must be put aside. A negative attitude, an old grudge against someone, a bad habit you've been wanting to quit, a substance abuse (including food)! What's holding you back? Don't waste precious time. Start running your best now so when you come to the end of your life you won't have any regrets!
