Daniel 4:37 "Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase."

Who doesn't like to be bragged on? Everyone needs a pat on the back now and then but many of us get our feelings hurt if other Christians don't tell us we are doing a good job or that they appreciate us. Shame on us! Any glory received for doing God's work should go to God and any proud looks should come from God.

Pride was King Nebuchadnezzar's downfall. Nebuchadnezzar was driven from his great kingdom of Babylon and his beautiful house. He was even driven away from the human race for awhile. He ate grass like an ox and slept outdoors all because of pride. God had to take these extreme measures to teach the King a lesson. Look at verse 30 in Daniel chapter 4.

"The king spake, and said, is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?"

The next verse says while the words were still in his mouth he heard the voice of God recalling his great kingdom from him. It took living like a wild animal to make him "praise and extol and honor the king of heaven."

PSALM 147:1 "Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely."

David believed that giving praise to God was so important he began the last five Psalms with the words "Praise ye the Lord." One of the six things God hates in Proverbs chapter 6 is a proud look. There is nothing wrong with being proud of what God accomplishes through you as long as you give all the glory and praise to Him. Remember the last words of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4. It cost him a lot to learn that "those that walk in pride He is able to abase."

So, how do we find opportunities to praise God? Try some of these.

Next time you get a promotion or something good happens to you, instead of telling others, "Guess what happened to me today?" Say, "Guess what God did for me today?"

Next time you get a new car or something else you are proud of, instead of saying, "Look what I got!" Say, "Look what God has blessed me with!"

Next time someone tells you that you are lucky because of your children, family, job, or even something as trivial as manageble hair; just say, "Yes, God has really blessed me there, hasn't He?" You'll be so surprised at how good this will make you feel inside. You can't give God anything without getting something better back!!!

I hope it doesn't take eating grass like oxen to make you Praise The Lord!

Praise ye the Lord.
Praise Him in the heights:
Praise Him all His angels.
Sun, moon and stars of light.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
Ye dragon, and the deep:
Beasts and cattle, flying fowl,
And all the things that creep.

Kings of earth and all the people;
Praise Him all your living days.
Let us praise His name forever,
For He is worthy of all praise.
