John 20:24 "But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God."

Thomas had a problem with belief. Even though the other disciples told him they had seen the risen Christ, he didn't believe them. He said he would have to see the scars in His hands before he would believe that Jesus was not dead. How many times have you doubted? God, yourself, your salvation? Doubt can have a very powerful influence on your life. This week we are going to take a look at some of the areas of our lives in which we doubt.

Have you ever doubted your ability do something? My mother doesn't drive. She has to depend on someone else to take her everywhere she goes. She once had a driver's license when she was younger but she drove the car off the road into a ditch and started doubting her ability to operate a vehicle. She stopped driving after the accident and never did renew her driver's license. That was over 50 years ago and now she lives alone and can't go anywhere unless someone takes her.

When you begin to doubt yourself, you lose whatever ability you had to start with. I play the piano, if I have confidence in my ability to play a piece I can usually play it but if I begin to doubt my profiency I usually make mistakes. You have to believe in yourself. No one else can give you self-confidence. Self-confidence is empowering, it will make you strong. Doubt is debilitating, it will make you weak.

Have you ever doubted God's hand working in your life? I once had a friend who's daughter was killed in a tragic car wreck. Up until this point, my friend had been active in church but after the accident, she turned her back on God. She blamed God for the death of her daughter. She started doubting God. She felt that if God really cared about her He would not have let these bad things happen to her and her loved ones.

When you begin to doubt God your life becomes chaotic. Only God can bring control to the Christian's life. We cannot control our own future. So if God is not in control, there is no control! When we doubt God's direction and try to control our own destiny we aren't gaining control over our lives, we are only losing God's direction! Doubting God is destructive, it will destroy your life!

Have you ever doubted that you were really saved? We all need to search our hearts every so often and make sure all is well with our souls but Satan would like nothing better than to cause a true, born again Christian to doubt that he'd ever been saved. When we begin to doubt that we are saved, we enter into a state of confusion. Were we ever really saved to begin with? And if we were, why has God now withdrawn from us? We may even enter into a state of denial. Is there even such a state of the soul being saved? Maybe it was just a feeling we had and now the feeling is gone? These are ploys of the devil. Without our salvation, what is our life worth? What good are things if we can't take them with us when we die and there is nothing beyond the grave? What is there to look forward to if there is no afterlife? We may as well go on and do whatever we want now and have as much fun as we can. These are thoughts Satan will put in your mind. Doubting your salvation is devastating, it will cause you to waste your life and wind up in hell.
