MATTHEW 5:13-16 "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

I once bought a can of unsalted nuts by mistake. One night, when I was in the mood for a nice, salty snack, I got a big disappointment. UGH! My husband says I use too much salt but without salt, food just doesn't taste. It has been estimated that there are more than 14,000 uses for salt. It is essential to health. Body cells must have salt in order to live and work.

When Christ gave His "Sermon On The Mount", large outdoor ovens were being used in the surrounding area. Salt was used to help retain the heat. After chemical reaction rendered the salt useless, it was used to gravel the roadways. Sometimes when we come under the fiery trials of life we lose our flavor. We allow burdens and hardships to destroy our vibrant spirit and Satan trods us under. We do not get excited about going to church or telling someone about God like we once did. We allow our light to dim and sometimes even go out.

I can't imagine how bland dinner would be each night if there were no seasoning at all in my food. I know some people have to limit their salt intake but I don't envy them. Likewise, can you imagine the world without people who believe in God? Without people who are praying and interceding for those around them in trouble? Without Christians who are witnessing and living their lives as a testimony to the saving power of Jesus Christ? We are all the world has to point them to heaven. If we lose our savor and let our lights go out, what will happen to the rest of the world?

We can't allow Satan to take the spice from our lives, the spark from our spirits or to put a basket over our lights. We need to put our bad day behind us and rekindle our flame for God. We need to leave our arguments and petty disagreements at home on Sunday and go to church to worship with our minds on heavenly things. Witness to your friends and loved ones this week. It really isn't as hard as it seems. Invite them to go to Church with you next week. Send them an inspirational card or even a poem via e-mail. Rekindle your fire and your spirit. Don't let the cares of life render you useless to God!

I hope you all have a great week.
