John 6:66-69
"From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye
also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we
believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God."
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and
learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is
light."
Jesus said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
He is the only one who can give you rest. He is the only one who can take your burden.
While a friend, minister or counselor can listen and sometimes give good advise, they cannot
take your pain or solve your problems. They cannot give you the feeling of peace and calm like
Jesus can!
Sometimes we can be totally surrounded by friends and family and still feel completely alone.
When we are tempted to sin, we are too ashamed to tell those who are close to us for fear they
will think badly of us. Many, when faced with temptations and troubles, get angry and take their
frustrations out on those around them. Others become depressed, and there are some who even
decide they can't face another day - their life is in such a mess, they may as well just take a
bottle of pills or a straight razor and end it.
When we are at our weakest, Satan is at his best. When you begin to entertain thoughts of despair,
you have One that totally understands and He will not condemn you for your weakness. He will
not think less of you because you are tempted by things of this world. He is always near and He
will always listen to your problems. There is no problem too great to bring to Him. He made you
and He knows what you are feeling.
We make our biggest mistake when we try to overcome temptations and face hard trials alone. I
love my friends and neighbors and we get along famously, but I do not feel comfortable telling
them my innermost thoughts. We get comfort from reading God's word and fellowshipping with other
Christians, but what do we do when we're tempted at work, at school or social gatherings? What
do we do when we have a problem we can't share publicly? We have a High Priest that will
take all our burdens on His strong shoulders. All we have to do is go to Him. He is waiting
with outstretched arms.
If we go to Him everyday with our trials and temptations while they are small and before we
succumb, we don't allow them to grow so large they overwhelm us. This is where many get into
trouble, they wait until their problems seem insurmountable before they turn to The Lord!
There are some temptations we cannot face alone! If you are facing something today that is
weighing you down, don't wait until it engulfs you! "Striving alone to face temptations sore -
Where Could I Go But To The Lord?"
WHERE COULD I GO?
Living below in this old sinful world,
Hardly a comfort can afford;
Striving alone to face temptations sore,
Where could I go to the Lord?
CHORUS
Where could I go, Oh where could I go,
Seeking a refuge for my soul?
Needing a friend to help me in the end,
Where could I go to the Lord?
Neighbors are kind, I love them everyone,
We get along in sweet accord;
But when my soul needs manna from above,
Where could I go to the Lord?
Life here is grand with friends I love so dear,
Comfort I get from God's own Word;
But when I face the chilling hand of death,
Where could I go to the Lord?
CHORUS
