Matthew 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added
If you are anything like millions of other Americans, you made a list of "New Year's Resolutions"
a few weeks ago. What was number one on your list? Was it losing weight? If you are a homemaker,
you may have resolved to become more organized or spend more time with your family. Or, if you
have a career, number one on your list may be working toward a promotion. Maybe you vowed to
use your credit card less, save money, stop smoking or start an exercise regime. All of these are
excellent goals but none of them are worthy of being number one!
Matthew 6:33 says to seek the kingdom of God first. Just how do we do that? First of all, we
can seek to extend the kingdom of heaven by witnessing to people we come into
contact with every day. You don't have to constantly talk about God to be a witness. Keeping a
Bible on your desk, a picture with a scripture or the Ten Commandments hanging on your wall,
wearing a Christian T Shirt to a ball game (I just bought a great angel shirt), ordering checks
with a Bible verse, a scripture screen saver or mouse pad for your computer, a coffee mug, pencil
holder, paper weight, picture frame or anything else with a scripture or picture for your desk
at work. Being a witness doesn't always have to do with what you say. How you act and the
things you keep around you are important, too.
Another thing you can do to seek the kingdom of God is to teach! Teach your children,
grandchildren, nieces and nephews about God by reading them Bible Stories or give them gifts of
books, tapes, CDs and Videos with a Christian meaning. Veggie Tales is a good place to
start if you don't have a clue about Christian gifts for children. Do you say grace at the
dinner table in the evening or are you too busy (or embarrassed)? Do you read your Bible
between visits to church or do you bring it home and lay it on the shelf? How long has it been
since you invited someone to go to church with you?
It isn't hard to seek the kingdom of God if you always have Him on your mind. And, if
He is number one on your list of priorities, you will always have Him on your mind!
SEEK YE FIRST
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness
and all these things shall be added unto you,
Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God,
Ask, and it shall be given unto you,
Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and the door shall be opened unto you,
