John 14:1-3
"1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place
for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there
ye may be also."
I own my own home here on earth. I just paid my home off last year and I'm very proud of it.
Just this year I spent a lot of money redecorating my home. I painted the walls, put down
new tile and carpet, put up new curtains and bought new appliances and furniture. When I get up
in the morning one of the first things I do is make the beds and straighten up the house. When
the lawn and shrubs get too high my husband gets the mower out and goes to work on them. Why do we care so
much? We're home owners! When you own something you really care about, you pay attention to it
- your desire is to take care of it. Taking care of it is something you love to do, it isn't
a burden, it's a joy. I carry a homeowner's insurance policy on my home and I have three smoke
detectors scattered throughout it. I'm not taking any chances on losing something I care
so much about!
I own a home in another country, too. Jesus said He went away to prepare a place for me. This
place is magnificent. It would make my home here on earth look like a little doll house!
He said in His Father's house were many mansions. The city I'm going to has walls of jasper and
streets of gold. The whole city is gold like pure glass. Even the foundations are made of
precious stones: jasper, sapphire, quartz and emerald. It has a pure river running through it
and the tree of life is growing by the river. The saints and the angels dwell there and Jesus
Himself is the light. He has gone to a lot of trouble to get this place ready for me and I am not
going to do anything to jeopardize this home, either. I love this home even more than my earthly
home. I carry a homeowner's policy on my heavenly home, too. I got this policy the day
I gave my heart and soul over to God. Jesus said He went away to prepare a place for me - a wonderful
place made of precious stones and gold. Someday He'll come back and take me to live with
Him in that place. Sound simple? It is simple. But I have to continue to want to live
in that heavenly place. Just as the dust and the clutter, the spiders, bugs
and weeds will take over my earthly house and lawn, sin and corruption will take over my life if
I let it. I have to hang on to my homeowner's policy. I have to continue in His love and
keep living my life for Him.
MANSION OVER THE HILLTOP
I'm satisfied with just a cottage below,
A little silver and a little gold;
But in that city where the ransomed will shine,
I want a gold one that's silver-lined.
Chorus
I've got a mansion just over the hilltop,
In that bright land where we'll never grow old;
And someday yonder we will never more wander,
But walk the streets that are purest gold.
Tho' often tempted, tormented and tested
And, like the prophet, my pillow a stone,
And tho' I find here no permanent dwelling,
I know He'll give me a mansion my own.
Chorus
I've got a mansion just over the hilltop,
In that bright land where we'll never grow old;
And someday yonder we will never more wander,
But walk the streets that are purest gold.
Don't think me poor or deserted or lonely,
I'm not discouraged, I'm heaven bound;
I'm just a pilgrim in search of a city,
I want a mansion, a harp and a crown.
Chorus
I've got a mansion just over the hilltop,
In that bright land where we'll never grow old;
And someday yonder we will never more wander,
But walk the streets that are purest gold.
