SCRIPTURE READING: EXODUS 14

Verses 8-10 "And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand. But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon. And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord."

Can you imagine how the children of Israel felt when they found themselves pursued by the Egyptian army and completely cut off by the Red Sea? The situation, to them, was hopeless. There was no place to go. What do you think would have happened to the nation of Israel if they had turned back and surrendered to Pharoah's men?

Verses 19-20 "And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night."

I have often asked myself the question, "What am I going to do?" In hopeless situations, the only thing we can do is leave the problem with God and go on as the Israelites did. Moses knew they could not stay where they were. Even though God was protecting them with a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day, they still had to move. God is able to blind our enemies and to give us light, but He expects us to go forward in that light!

Verses 21-25 "And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the Lord looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, And took off their chariot wheels, that they drove them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the Lord fighteth for them against the Egyptians."

IF GOD BE FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US!

If you are a child of God, no situation is hopeless. There is always a way out. Life is always worth fighting for and the Christian will always be victorious. But in order to claim victory, we must move forward for God. Sitting still we stagnate; going back we become captives. Sometimes we get caught up in life and problems seem to weigh us down until we can no longer function. This is not the way God meant for us to live. He sent His only Son to die for us so we could take our problems directly to Him and leave them there. If you have problems holding you back, why not turn them over to God. Move forward. Cross the sea and leave the world of bondage behind!

Verses 28 & 30 "And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore."

VICTORY IN JESUS

CROSSING THE SEA

I can never regain the time I have lost,
I cannot undo what I've done.
I cannot walk in yesterday's rain,
Nor bask in last summer's sun.

I must learn from the past, make the most of today.
Moving forward, redeeming the time.
And as Moses of old, I must obey my Lord,
Cross the Sea and leave Egypt behind.
