JOHN 1:1-9 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world."
I took my Mother to visit her sister in North Carolina. My aunt had renovated my grandmother's
old house and it was quite beautiful. As she showed us through her new home, my Mother made
the comment that everything was so clean. My aunt said, "Oh but just don't turn on the lights
and look in the corners." I remember thinking, what could possible be found in the corners of
this immaculate house! I was sure my aunt had cleaned right before we came to visit and the
corners were just as spotless as what the eye could see.
Matthew 12:43-45
Another thing we have to be careful about when we clean up the corners of our heart; be sure to put something back in!!! You wouldn't get rid of all the furniture in your house and leave it bare! If we don't replace the bad habits we remove from our lives with good, clean things, the old habits will creep back in! For example: If you decided watching TV all day is destroying your life, try doing something else with the time you have been wasting! Get a part-time job, volunteer at a hospital or other health facility, visit the sick and lonely, read your bible and pray, spend more quality time with your family, start a bible study in your home. If you don't develop new, healthier habits to replace the old, bad habits, it will be easy to go back to what you have been used to doing.
Won't you let The Light shine in the darkness of your heart?
HIS LOVE LIGHTS THE WAY
I've left the old paths I traveled so long,
Pray and ask God to search out the dark corners of your heart this week. Then you look,
too! You may not like what you find there! If so, begin to sweep them out and let the light of
Jesus shine in. Get rid of all the old junk you find in there that is holding you back. Whether
it is too much TV, too much sleep, a bad habit you'd like to break or just procrastination,
replace it with something you know would be more pleasing to God! Don't be afraid of the
light, welcome it!
