WHAT IS YOUR HEART CONDITION?

I hope you didn't have any trouble last week writing out your goals. Hopefully you and God came to some kind of an agreement!

This week we are going to work on getting a new heart! What kind of heart do you have? We are going to do some research this week and search out our hearts. Your heart is the core, the very center, of your being. It holds your deepest feelings, and your darkest secrets. This can be a scary assignment but we should not be afraid of the truth. Once we know the truth about what lies hidden in our hearts, we will be able to change what we don't like there!

Are you selfish, wishy-washy, deceitful, disloyal? Are there secret sins lying deep within your heart such as hate, envy, malice or lust? It's time to get out the Weed-Be-Gone and soak those sins!

First thing I want you to do is get out your notebook. Write down the secrets you think your heart may hide. Do you ever have times you wish you were Samantha on Bewitched and could wiggle your nose and make someone disappear? Or maybe when you are flipping channels on cabel and come across an x rated movie you just can't make yourself move on. What about that person who makes you green with envy to the point you actually wish them ill? (We will talk more about them week 9.) Write down every single thing you can think of. Granted, some of these feelings are just normal, human feelings, but let's get them all out in the open anyway. If you have a close friend you can confide in, and you are sure you can take constructive criticism, you might want to ask them if they have anything to add to your list. (Please don't ask your spouse! I'd hate to think I was responsible for any divorces!)

This week we are going to work on changing some of these dark places in our hearts. Once you have turned on the light, it will be easier to recognize these unwanted traits when they show themselves. And, it is easier to fight when we know what the foe looks like. I did some real soul searching over this lesson. We all have things hidden away in our hearts we wouldn't want others to know about. But God knows what is in even the deepest recesses of our hearts. I prayed this week that He would give me victory over even these! I know He will and I know He will help you, too, as you search out your heart condition this week! Once you have your list, don't try to tackle everything at once. Just being aware of what your heart has been hiding and getting it all out in the open is a tremendous step in the right direction.

Each time your heart pumps unwanted thoughts into your mind this week be aware of it and squash those thoughts before they can take root and grow. If you are tempted to tell a lie, gossip or say something hurtful, recognize it as a heart condition and treat it immediately. This is one of your soul exercises for the week. The second is to go back and look at your list of goals you made last week and take another small step toward accomplishing one of them. The third soul exercise is to work some more on changing your attitude toward someone as we started doing week 2.

Your mind exercise this week is to memorize the three verses at the beginning of this week's lesson.

Your body exercise is to purchase an exercise video if you don't already own one and to get as far through it as you can without hurting yourself. (I like Richard Simmons "Sweatin' To The Oldies".) Do this every other day. If you can't afford a video, tape one of the daily routines off your TV and use it. The point is to move until you break a sweat! If you are physically handicapped you might want to try Yoga or Pilates. Denise Austin has a great video that combines these two. Or perhaps you could do a deep breathing exercise such as Oxycise!

I have all of the above mentioned videos and they are all beneficial.

YOU CAN DO THIS. I KNOW YOU CAN!!! DON'T GIVE UP. JUST DO WHAT YOU CAN! EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS TO GET YOU CLOSER TO THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE!
