So many times I have tried to do something on my own, without asking God, and it usually turns
out disastrous! You'd think I would eventually learn that I can do nothing without Him, but I
go and make the same mistake again. If you are having trouble sticking to a diet or exercise
routine or breaking an undesirable habit, maybe you need to just "give up!" Now, I didn't say
give in I said give up, there is a lot of difference. Giving in means we
surrender to the disease. Giving up means we surrender our problem area to God! We give it
up literally. He said we could have what ever we asked, if we just believed He would do it.
Have you ever prayed like the father in Mark 9:24, "Lord I believe, help thou mine unbelief"?
I have! There have been many times my faith has been weak and I have prayed that prayer. Did
you know God wants to give us the desires of our hearts? But so often we ask amiss.
(James 4:3) If what you are asking for is something that will make you a better person, God
is on your side! He says in Matthew 7:9 that what father, if asked for bread, would give his
child a stone. If earthly fathers love to give their children what they ask for so much, how
much more does God want to help us with our needs. He knows what we need before we ask
(Matt. 6:8) but it pleases Him to have us ask!
There are several things we are going to do in the next couple of weeks and prayer is only
one of them. Another thing we are going to do is help someone in need. Find someone who is
less fortunate than you are and help them with groceries, clothes or utility bills. This is
actually an exercise you cannot afford not to do! This is very important. It will not
only help someone else but it will make you feel wonderful! The second thing we are going to
do is take some discarded clothing to a shelter (you should have some after cleaning out all
those closets!) The third thing is to call an elderly neighbor or shut-in and ask them if
there is something you can help them with such as shopping, cleaning or yard work.
(If you are doing the program during the holidays, offer to help them with their shopping. You
could also help with Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.) The last
thing we are going to do this week is "vow not to argue"! I don't want you to argue with
anyone about anything NO MATTER WHAT! Just for one week, if you feel an argument coming
on, STOP. Rethink what you were going to say or just walk away! I want this to
be the most peaceful week you have ever lived, so even if you know the other person is dead
wrong and you are 100% sure you are right...DON'T ARGUE ABOUT IT! Just smile a little
"superior" smile and walk away. If you must, you may say, "We'll leave that one for another
day", but just make sure you leave it!
I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK AS YOU TALK TO YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND SEEK HIS HELP IN ALL YOU ARE TRYING TO DO.
